"FREE SOLO" - HEN AND CHICKEN THEATRE
Hazel was fourteen years old when her father, the world-renowned free solo climber John Robinson, fell to his death. Eleven years later, Hazel discovers her dad's old climbing journal. As she flicks through the pages, her memories draw her back into her childhood. A childhood in which Hazel's family went on camping trips around the world. A childhood in which Hazel's dad would climb mountains while she and her mum watched on wide-eyed. A childhood in which John was Spiderman; and nothing ever happens to superheroes.
Hazel begins to trace a path through these memories, ecstatic to relive the ups of her life with her dad, reluctant to remember the downs. She finds that the more she discovers about her father, the more she wants to understand who he really was. Why was he so compelled to climb? Why couldn't he stop? Why would he choose to risk everything he had? All this leads Hazel to the inevitable question: Is she going to be her father?
“Free Solo” is a new musical about family, overcoming fear, and following in your parents’ footsteps.
Simone will play the role of John Robinson. The musical will run from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August at Hen and Chicken Theatre - 109 St. Pauls Road, London.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE SCARLETT O'HARA
What if a woman has to choose between motherhood and career? What if the man she loves can't handle her success? And what if those two are Hollywood stars as Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier?
"To be or not to be Scarlett O 'Hara" tackles, with imagination, the moment immediately following the Christmas dinner of 1938 at first director-in-charge of Gone With The Wind George Cukor’s house. In the biography by Donald Spoto about Laurence Olivier it’s told that, while dining, Cukor took Vivien apart and announced she had been chosen for the role and then everyone was happy for her "except, maybe, Larry". In this single act we meet the two famous actors after dinner in their hotel room dealing with the crisis that a precious chance such as interpreting the eternal role of Scarlett produces on a pair. Just when the couple seems to find a balance, an unforeseen trouble comes out.
Man, as male individual, still struggles to accept women’s success. It is not a problem of times but rather cultural. As the Hollywood industry passed on feelings like a steamroller, so today the craving for self-affirmation, economic stability and success is threatening lovers’ peace. And actually, as in this comedy, it is the job’s world, with its strict and cold rules, to make decisions for us. "To be or not to be" was Hamlet's torment. Vivien’s. Or anybody’s.
